As a child of athletes, a former athlete herself (field hockey, softball, and track & field), the wife of a USA Basketball, FIBA, Semi-Pro and High School Basketball coach, and mother to 2 former All-American athletes, sports heavily impacted Tonya May Avent for most of her life.

Until a serious injury to her oldest daughter completely changed everything...

While her daughter was recovering, Tonya started blogging about her faith journey through her daughter’s recovery, and Destined 4 the Dub was born, which focuses on ministering the gospel through a sports lens. A few years later, Tonya started Faith-Filled Moms, a ministry that provided biblical and emotional support and content to encourage, uplift, and inspire women experiencing difficult seasons in life.

Tonya now blogs as Busy Christian Sports Mom, sharing the ups and down of navigating through a life full of faith, family, and sports.

Tonya is an award-winning author, engaging speaker, and contributing writer for Guideposts magazine. She has also contributed to Chicken Soup for the Soul and Stay Focused magazine. Her first book, Using God’s Playbook for the Game of Life: 52 Scriptures Your Young Athlete Should Know Before Sending Them Off Into the World is a devotional for young athletes published in October 2022.

Tonya hosts a weekly online show, Moms Night In, where she interviews and shares the stories of faith-filled moms facing difficult situations in life, to encourage, uplift, and inspires others who may be experiencing similar challenges.

Tonya has been married to Kenny Avent for 20 years. They reside in New Jersey with their two daughters, Kennedi (18) and Kassadi (15).
